Head of Majority Caucus in Idaho busted: Grand theft Auto/DUI

June 19, 2011 at 10:25 PM (Politics) (, )

John McGee, a four-term Republican state senator from Idaho and Majority Caucus Chair in the Idaho Statehouse, was arrested early Sunday morning on charges of grand theft and for driving under the influence.

At least it was just basic, run of the mill crime. Nice to see a GOP pol with interests beyond trying to subvert voter turnout, screwing teachers and other public service sector workers, ragging about pointless hot button pretend issues instead of addressing real problems.

But, drinking at the golf course until 3AM, sealing an SUV with a trailer attached. Parking in the wrong driveway and passing out? Boys will be boys. Wonder if any other pol is gonna nag him until he resigns.

Drama, too much drama

April 8, 2011 at 5:14 PM (Politics)

While we are all on the edge of our seats, tuned in to breathless news readers and rabid pundits, who’s watching their local legislative loons? Could they be getting away with behaving badly while the fools on the Hill are dancing close to a cliff?

Various states’ legislative loons were bad enough when the whole world was watching. Can’t help but think some bad bird crap is probably going down here and there while we aren’t watching.

Yeah, I am that cynical.

The people don’t approve of the budget fight shutdown threat, but GOP leadership has the scape goat staked out and ready for sacrifice

April 7, 2011 at 3:21 PM (Fiscally Loons, Loon Liars Pants on Fire, Musing on loon behavior, Politics)

Naive Tea Party Pols are about to learn a very hard lesson. Boo hoo for them, the fools!

The radical  freshmen all think they are changing/leading the party. That kind of cheerful enthusiasm is kinda cute, but not especially healthy. The GOP leadership has already laid track to send the tea party to oblivion for the whole budget  mess.

The ‘budget impasse’ is nothing but a GOP campaign strategy.

They have nothing  to run on except contrived emotional hot button ‘issues’.  The GOP has already come out and said Job One for the GOP majority in the House was to assure the defeat of Obama in 2012. They aren’t governing, they are campaigning and they already admitted as much.

The economy still sucks, but it is a bit less sucky which might make some folks think Obama isn’t so bad.

Obama is making slow headway, and the GOP will risk tanking the itty bitty movement toward recovery to keep him from a modicum of success. Too bad about the collateral damage to Americans.

What does a shutdown accomplish?

Nothing really. It doesn’t save money, it costs money. It doesn’t cure stupid. It doesn’t give anyone sweeter breath, whiter whites, or make life like we pretend the 50s were really Happy Days. Father still won’t magically know best and Mom will not go back to doing housework all pimped out in crinolines, taffeta, and pearls. The kids not will suddenly get great grades and be overwhelmed into angelic behavior by simple pearls of  parental wisdom.

Nah-ah. It won’t cure baldness, bunions, or  change the fact that the majority of American voters did, indeed, put the black guy in the White House, either.

Really, what does a shutdown accomplish?

Aside from the obvious, that no one will be on the other end of the line when you call for some government service you have become accustomed to, here is some of what a shutdown will do:

Furloughed federal workers will be NOT paying taxes for the time they are forced to take off.  But the government’s bills will keep coming in, even with the shortfall in revenue when those federal workers not getting paid will also not be paying taxes like they do when allowed to show up for work.

Furloughed federal workers will NOT be much inclined to be open their wallets on Main Street, save for the very basic essentials like milk and bread.  Main Street businesses will still have bills coming in, but less business to help them meet their obligations.

Government backed home loans won’t get done. That will hurt.

Payments for programs that family farms rely on to help fund projects which are good for the farms and good for the environment will not get made. That will hurt.

The troops will not get their pay on time. That not only hurts, it is an unforgivable breach of the social contract between America and those who risk it all to protect America.

If the budget really mattered to the GOP, the deficit would not go up so much during GOP administrations in the Oval Office and GOP majorities on the Hill.

If the deficit really mattered to the GOP, they would make sure the Hoarder Class and hugely profitable corporations pay their fair share in taxes and they would close a lot of loopholes. Oh, and they would end those damned wars that only benefit the Military Industrial Complex.

If  ‘support the troops’ was anything buy a slogan to play on emotions, the GOP would not be seriously toying with the idea of holding up the troops’ paychecks as a campaign tactic.  What a moral abomination, sending our troops into harm’s way so some corporations can reap huge profits, and access to oil, then play fast and loose with those troops’ pay checks.

The people are not pleased.  But it’s all good for the GOP. In rovian fashion, they will blame it all on those tea party loony freshmen legislators.  It’s all their fault. Yep. The REAL GOP is all about being grown ups ‘n stuff. It’s those irresponsible, inexperienced newbies on the Hill causing all this ruckus.

Of course, the tea party movement is a concoction of the real powers that be in the traditional GOP. And the tea party pols who got themselves swept into office were fools who thought they could change anything and get themselves writ into history books. Ego stew is a nasty brew, but it makes for crowd pleasin’ party food. But the party never lasts as long as the ‘guests of honor’ assumed it would and pretty soon they find themselves standing outside the prom with stains on their pretty clothes.

That the GOP has set the teaparty fools up as the fall guys is just S.O.P. They pander to a radical group for an election cycle or three, then when their overreach is too evident to ignore, they blame the group they pandered to for making them do it.

The tea bagging fools should have noticed how the GOP exploited then discarded the Christian Right. They don’t learn from history. The REAL GOP is a very small, very elite group that pretends to be all folksy while they are wooing, screwing, and undoing the people they trick into voting for them.

RE: Montana GOP efforts to overturn voter initiative on medical marijuana

April 6, 2011 at 7:18 PM (Musing on loon behavior, Politics)

Figured it out. It isn’t about a wish to keep folks from getting all relaxed and in an altered state. They aren’t being mean and just trying to deny sick people some relief when pills fail.  It’s not about trying to prevent any danger of addiction. Hells bells, the governor proved the legislators are deep into getting relaxed and in altered states, well beyond feeling any pain.  He called up the stats regarding liquor sales in Helena when the boys are in town every other year. The numbers were pretty impressive and supported the fact that a lot of pols are fine with addictions, as long as it’s  addiction to some form of aged  liquid. Yessiree, they loves them some altered states.

Gotta be about who gets the money for altered state inducing supplies. Seems likely the GOP loons trying to undo the will of the people are probably looking out for the interests of Big Pharma and Little Tavern Keepers.  Wonder what is influencing that $ort of effort.  We have already been treated to one very small (minded) tavern keeper/part time pol telling us how important it is to let drunk drivers be. Why, it’s an economic necessity! It’s an important part of our heritage!

When I was young, the question commonly asked of fools behaving badly was  ‘stoned or stupid?’ Seems likely that needs an addendum:  Stoned, stupid, or hypocrite on the take?

Those ol boys love their drunks on the highways, but don’t want anyone getting high at home, even if it is just to manage overwhelming pain.  When pot providers start sending checks, I ‘spect the pols will look upon the humble weed with a more loving gaze.

Dear Denny…

April 6, 2011 at 1:37 PM (Fiscally Loons, Good Resouce For Loon Watchers, Participating is Patriotic, Politics)

Got an email asking me to  contact my Congressman regarding cutting Department of Defense budget instead of increasing it, as the GOP wants to do, while they are cutting the budget for everything else and creating some real hardships for a lot of good, productive Americans.

USA Action/True Majority http://act.truemajorityaction.org makes it easy to be a part of the voice that doesn’t come from the paid propagandists or the bought-and-paid-for politicians the Hoarder Class hired to make Americans think it’s a good thing to be bent over and, um fleeced.   Not a bad mailing list to sign up for; they remind you to take your mad and do something useful with it. Better than just stewing about things until your potatoes get all burned up and the smoke alarm goes off.

If you want to send a message to your congressman about this budget, here is an easy method:

Click the link, or copy and paste it in your brower’s address bar.

You’ll get to a page where you put in your zip code and it brings up contact to  your congressman. It opens a message that you can add to. I added to mine, as Denny Rehberg just isn’t serving me, or the interests of my state and I am damned well calling him on it.  Again.

The robo form text is in blue in the quote of my missive to Denny below. You can just sign and send as it is, backspace it out if you don’t like the message and put it in your own words, or you can keep it and embellish with your own ruffles and flourishes, like I just did. My additions are in red, because, frankly, I am seeing red about the GOP trashing of America and hurting the majority of us while funneling more to those who already have most. I am seeing red at their attacks on necessary programs under the banner of the need to cut the deficit while they don’t actually do anything which  will really cut the deficit.

The House GOP’s proposed budget is upside down. It cuts important health care programs we need and increases spending in areas we do not, notably the military.

Please reject Rep. Ryan’s proposal and instead look first to the Pentagon for cuts. Stop being a blind partisan follower; that’s what got ya piled up on those rocks after that drinkin and boatin evening. Be a leader. Do what is right, not what the hoarder class and their hired hands in the GOP leadership tell ya to do. Get some gumption! Show me your head is more than just a place to hang that fancy hat you think fools me into thinkin’ you’re a hard working Montana rancher. That hat never shows sweat stains, Denny. Use your head, not that hat!

If the deficit is so critical, close the tax loopholes that allow companies like GE to turn BILLIONS in profits without paying taxes. Raise the capital gains tax, 15% is too low for the hoarder class who made fortunes on the infrastructure paid for by all of us and the labors of the average American worker! Raise the tax rates on the top 1%! And end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan!

Those wars are only making more enemies for America, they are not making us safer and we all know it!

Stop chanting that we have to cut government spending while winking and giving a pass to that which costs us the most. Stop blaming the people with the least for the problems created to assure people with the most get even more!

We are watching, Denny, and so far, we have yet to see you take a bold stand for THE PEOPLE of Montana. Not all of us have FOX News/Noise in our ears and Koch tea in our eyes. When Japan got hit by the devastating events of last month, were you out there trying to make sure the people of Japan had food and the producers of Montana had buyers for grain and meat? No, you were too busy cuddling with tea bagging fools and Michele Bachmann, trying to raise funds for your senate run! Yeah, we noticed that. So, bigger and better for Denny is more important that hungry people and floundering producers who could be helping feed a nation in need?

War is OK but help for the most at risk is too costly? That is NOT a family value we can live with! Low taxes for the hoarder class DO NOT create jobs. Trickle down is a myth. People are dying so military contractors can make more and more money?

If the budget needs to be cut and deficit reduced, cut DOD and raise taxes on those who have hoarded so much already and have prospered in this economy where the bulk of good, decent, hard working Americans have already suffered so much and facing more still. Really, students, the elderly poor, working poor, and what’s left of the middle class has to keep tightening their belts while DOD contractors keep getting richer and not paying taxes? Really, Denny? No, it isn’t necessary and it isn’t right!

And please note my location. That, along with my words should tell you the jig is up on this business of saying what ya think we wanna hear while runnin’ with a herd that is dead set against our best interests. If somebody in my deep red ‘hood can see through the GOP budget dog and pony show, you know it isn’t playing like ya hoped!

We are watching. Do right by us.

No sense nonsense

April 2, 2011 at 11:27 AM (Politics, Uncategorized)

Why is it that so many seem unable to ask themselves analytical questions about what they hear or read, especially regarding politics? We have Newt claiming we are about to become a secular country on the one hand, but on the other hand also claiming we are about to become fundamentalist Islamists. Say what? And then Palin stating we should enforce a no-fly zone over Libya and then ripping Obama a new one for doing that same thing. Oh, let’s not forget the GOP foaming over about the Libya thing and forgetting all about their rush into the Iraq mess.  I know our politicians are looney but have all our citizens lost their senses too?

And don’t get me started about people not thinking about consequences!  Cut the budget, cut all the social programs, fire public employees and what will happen?  More homeless? More unemployed?   Fewer people buying things?  And this is going to help how?

Sill Fine to Text While Driving in Montana

March 19, 2011 at 11:48 AM (Loon News, Politics)

Somebody get this one out to the deer and antelope playing near Montana’s highways and county roads ASAP!

Those loony buffoons who want to overturn the wishes of Missoula voters and meddle in the sex lives of Missoula renters, do not think it’s the business of government to say no to TWD (texting while driving).

Senate Bill 251 would have let police pull a driver over for using a cell phone to send text messages, with a $100 fine for violators.

The Senate rejected the proposal Friday on a 31-18 vote.

So, what local voters approved for their local areas re not allowing landlords to discriminate on tenants based on sexual preferences is the stuff the state government should try to overturn?  Giving law enforcement the tools to stop drivers from engaging in dangerous distractions, probably saving the lives of many,  some of whom are  young and less experienced drivers and anyone on the roads with them,  is not something government should do?

Yeah, it’s not like there are ever bad road conditions, snow, blowing snow, snow on ice, ice, wind that can move a cow, cows (alone or in herds being moved by ranchers), deer, antelope, or other people on the roads.

Drivers in Montana have nothing to pay attention to, right? Sure, let them use their thumbs on devices so small it requires both hands to be close together, not on a steering wheel! It’s not government’s business to set standards and laws that might keep people safe on public roads. Sure, let people engage in conversations which require their ears and eyes to be distracted from what might exist on the road ahead! It’s not like there is anything or ANYONE who might cause a hazard that needs to be dealt with quickly.

Sadly  Legislative Loon-acy is not endangered in Montana. Drivers on public roads, well they are endangered and quite likely to remain so beyond the naturally occurring risks.  Good judgment is rare with recent legislative crowds. Common sense just ain’t common.

Well, Governor Schweitzer did point out that liquor sales go up in Helena when the state legislature is in session there.

Federal Budget is in bad shape so they give $$ to Big Oil

March 1, 2011 at 6:08 PM (Fiscally Loons, Loon News, Politics)

At this point, words fail me.

The GOP big birds on the Hill in D.C. are slashing programs millions of tax paying Americans rely on but voted, in lockstep, to continue federal corporate welfare subsidies to Big Oil.

Democrats offered a motion to recommit that would have stripped the five largest oil companies of taxpayer subsidies, saving tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer funds.  The motion failed on a vote of 176-249, with all Republicans voting against (approximately a dozen Democrats joined the GOP).

Help an old woman out here. Weren’t the big oil companies turning big profits, or did I just dream that? What the duck?

Legislative Loons at the top hate Americans but they loves them fat cats. It isn’t free market capitalism when the taxpayers are paying for some of it and the companies they are funding are dodging taxes.

WI: Staff of absent DEM State Senators locked out of copiers

February 28, 2011 at 2:13 PM (Loon News, Politics)

OK, now some Legislative Loons in WI are taking it out on staff just trying to do their jobs of responding to the public

Per a  motion from WI State Senator Scott Fitzgerald, Chairman, of the WI Committee on Senate Organization, time sheets of staffers of the DEM Senators who left to prevent a quorum now must be reviewed and certified by the majority leader.

Until further notice from the Majority Leader, timesheets of any employee appointed by a Senator who is absent without leave for 2 or more session days shall be reviewed and certified by the Majority Leader rather than the employee’s appointing authority. Until further notice from the Majority Leader, all copy machine access codes shall be deactivated for any Senator who is absent without leave for 2 or more session days. If an office requires assistance in making copies to respond to an open records request, the office may request the assistance of the Sergeant at Arms, who shall ensure that the cost of the copies is charged against the Senator’s office expense account. In addition, the Chief Clerk shall charge the office expense account of each such Senator for the use of the office printers. The amount shall equal the “per click” amount the Legislature is assessed under its printer maintenance contract.*

Ok, I can almost see the point re time sheets, after all, the staffers’ immediate supervisors, the elected officials who blew town to protect public workers’ right to maintain union bargaining power, are not there to keep track.  But face it, this  is really an attempt to bully and intimidate the staffers, using them as whipping posts. It is the sort of intimidation Legislative Loons like to pull to get their way when all logic shows them to be on the wrong side of things.

But copier restrictions? What the duck? Staffers of state senators who flew the coop need special permission and help to make copies? Boy, the loons really want to make it difficult for voters and the staffs of their elected representatives to do the people’s business! Some loons are just plain anti-representative democracy, we reckon. It is more important to the loons to punish and interfere with public employees/public servants who are really trying to take care of constituents than to make sure democracy, that covenant between The People and Their Government works on the day to day basis.

Bad Loons! No fish for you today!
